Proprietry mail systems
SpamPal is written to support standard Internet mail protocols.
However, some services such as AOL, WebTV, Juno and "webmail" sites
like Hotmail, have their own proprietry mail systems that don't follow
the standards. You can't use SpamPal with such a service... at least,
not directly.
However, there are various third-party programs out there that will
let you connect to some proprietry mail systems using POP3 - and thus
you can use SpamPal with them! Such programs include:
- Hotmail Popper -
a free program that allows access to Hotmail mailboxes using
standard email programs.
- HotPop3
- GPL (free of charge) program that supports Hotmail. Currently in
alpha-release (that's "very early pre-release" for the non-programmers
out there).
- Pop3Connector
- supports Hotmail, Excite, Yahoo and lots more webmail services. After
15 days, requires registration ($10).
- Web2Pop
- apparently supports thousands of proprietry mail services, including
Hotmail, AOL, Excite and Juno. Costs approximately 20 euros (about 20
dollars); there's a free 30-day evaluation version available.
- YahooPOPs
- GPL (free of charge) program for Yahoo mailboxes.
None of these products are officially endorsed by me - I've never used
any of them because I've never had need of them. But that doesn't mean
they don't work.
